Bella Thomson (that's me!) is a student filmmaker who is very passionate about raising awareness and education about Tourette Syndrome.
Q: What am I trying to do?
A: Make a difference in the way people think about Tourette Syndrome, and mental health in general!
Q: How am I going to do it?
A: I'm making a film!
I have lived with the disorder since I was nine years old, and in that time have seen the general lack of education and understanding about Tourette Syndrome in society. I am also very passionate about filmmaking; I believe that film is one of the best ways to influence the public and create change in society.
When I was in grade nine, I had the opportunity to create a documentary about Tourette Syndrome for a school project, and thus What Makes Us Tic was born! The film ended up being half an hour long, including interviews with over ten people, and covering a wide range of topics relating to Tourette Syndrome. The film was a great success, but because of some technical issues with the quality and editing of the film, I decided my best option was to create an updated, feature-length version of the film. I am in grade eleven right now, and I am working to complete the film before I enter grade twelve.
What makes me tic?
-watching Independent and foreign films
-cooking with my mom
-sitting for a moment and wondering "what if..."
-building lego sets with my brother
Enough about me, What makes you Tic?
